How to Prepare Your Cat for Boarding

We know that leaving your beloved feline in someone else’s care can be a big step. At Purr-Central, we do everything possible to ensure your cat enjoys a calm, comforting and enriching stay in our luxurious accommodation. With a little preparation, you can help your cat settle in beautifully and enjoy their own little holiday.

Here’s how to prepare for a smooth, stress-free boarding experience with us.

✅ 1. Vaccinations – Safety First

To ensure the health and safety of every guest at Purr-Central, all cats must be up to date with their F3 vaccination (feline panleukopenia, calicivirus, and herpesvirus).

Please ensure:

  • Vaccinations are administered at least 10–14 days before boarding

  • You provide a current vaccination certificate from your vet prior to arrival (a digital copy is fine)

If you’re unsure about your cat’s vaccination status, give your vet a call well in advance – we’re happy to help clarify what’s required.

🧳 2. Help Your Cat Feel at Home in Their Carrier

The journey to our cattery begins with the carrier – something many cats are unsure of. To help your cat feel secure during travel:

  • Leave the carrier open at home several days before your visit

  • Line it with a soft towel or blanket that smells like home

  • Pop treats, toys or catnip inside to create a positive association

When your cat feels safe in their carrier, they’re more likely to arrive at Purr-Central calm and curious – ready to explore their room.

🧸 3. Pack a Few Home Comforts

Purr-Central is designed to feel like a serene retreat, but a few familiar items can make the adjustment even smoother. You're welcome to bring:

  • A favourite blanket or bed with a familiar scent

  • A few toys your cat enjoys

  • Favourite treats if your cat enjoys them

Let us know what you’d like to include – we’ll make sure your cat has everything they need to feel safe and content.

🍽️ 4. Keep Their Diet Consistent

At Purr-Central, we understand how important it is to keep diet’s consistent to ensure a smooth transition into cattery life and stop your beloved family member getting a tummy upset. That’s why we have an extensive range of food available, including Whiskers, Dine, Hills, Advance and Royal Canin. If your cat is on a special diet (eg a prescription diet), you will need to supply enough for the length of your stay. We do not charge for storing or serving food or treats that you bring for your cat.

If your cat requires prescription diets or supplements, let us know and we’ll ensure they’re administered precisely as instructed.

📝 5. Share Their Personality and Routine

Every cat is unique, and we tailor our care accordingly. Before arrival, we’ll ask you to complete a brief guest profile so we understand:

  • Their normal food

  • Medical needs or medications

  • Social habits (e.g., shy, affectionate, playful)

  • Triggers or dislikes

Our experienced carers take pride in offering personalised attention - this information helps us care for your cat just as you would.

🌸 6. Consider Calming Aids (Optional)

If your cat tends to get anxious in new environments, you may wish to use:

  • Feliway spray on bedding or carriers

  • Natural calming treats or supplements (speak to your vet about which one is best for your cat and how to use it)

Our tranquil environment helps most cats relax quickly, but we’re always happy to discuss additional support if needed.

🐾 7. Drop-Off: Calm, Quick, and Kind

Cats are sensitive to our emotions, so we encourage a calm, confident goodbye. We’ll welcome your cat with gentle hands and a warm, quiet space to help them settle in peacefully.
